Put on your boots, grab a shovel and help continue the Confederation Forest planting on the Upton Farmland on Saturday, September 23. Everyone is invited and there is no charge for the event!  The Macphail Woods Ecological Forestry Project, in partnership with TD Bank’s Tree Days and the Upton Farm Trust, will continue working on the new four-hectare Acadian forest.
Islanders are invited to come out anytime between 10-1pm and continue in the creation of this unique legacy of our commitment to healthy forests and communities. Volunteers will be planting native trees and shrubs, everything from white ash to witch hazel. Â Macphail Woods staff will be teaching best planting practices, offering pruning tips and helping with identification. Â Be prepared to get your hands dirty.
The planting area borders on a small woodland already protected under the provincial Natural Areas Protection Act. Â You can find a map of the property here. If you’re interested in helping, you’ll find a map to the property on the Macphail Woods website. Â Or you can go to the TD website for more info on their TD TreeDays.
