UPEI Relay for Life’s Valentine’s Week Builds Momentum for March 14
As part of a week filled with love, community spirit, and fundraising, UPEI Relay for Life hosted a series of Valentine’s themed events leading up to this year’s main Relay event. With all proceeds supporting the Canadian Cancer Society, students had multiple opportunities to get involved, learn more about Relay for Life, and contribute to the fight against cancer.
The week kicked off with an Information Table designed to help students learn about Relay for Life and how to get involved. On Monday, February 9, from 11am to 1pm, members of the UPEI Relay for Life team were set up in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre Concourse. Students were encouraged to stop by to learn about the Relay event, ask questions, and find out how to join or create a team. These sessions were a great way to connect with organizers and begin planning for the main event.
Midweek, the focus shifted to a cozy and nostalgic Movie Night. On Wednesday, February 11, from 7pm to 9pm in Room 242 of McDougall Hall, students gathered for a screening of “10 Things I Hate About You”. With a $5 admission fee, attendees enjoyed a classic romantic comedy while supporting a meaningful cause. The event combined Valentine’s vibes with community fundraising, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere on campus.

On Thursday, February 12, from 7pm to 9pm at the St. Louis Bar & Grill Charlottetown, students enjoyed Valentine’s Live Music featuring Ethan MacPhee. This event was held in collaboration with the UPEI Business Society and included raffle tickets for a chance to win a hockey stick signed by the UPEI Men’s Hockey Team. The combination of live entertainment and exciting prizes made it a standout event of the week, drawing students together in support of the cause.
The fundraising continued on Friday, February 13, with a Tulips Fundraiser from 11am to 2pm in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre Concourse. In collaboration with the UPEI Filipino Society [KABAYAN], students could purchase tulips for $1 per piece or $8 per bouquet. Being sold out in just 30 minutes, the fundraiser gave students the chance to share a small gesture of appreciation with friends or partners while contributing to Relay for Life.

On Saturday, February 14, the team brought their efforts off campus for a 50/50 Fundraiser at the Royalty Crossing Mall from 12pm to 4pm, located in front of Winners. Tickets were sold at $10 per square for a chance to win $500. This event helped expand awareness beyond campus and engage the broader Charlottetown community in supporting the Canadian Cancer Society.
All of these events are building momentum toward the main UPEI Relay for Life event, taking place on March 14 at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. Relay for Life is more than a fundraiser. It is a celebration of survivors, a remembrance of loved ones lost, and a powerful demonstration of hope and solidarity.

Students are strongly encouraged to make or join a team and be part of this unforgettable experience. Whether you participate with friends, classmates, or a campus club, your involvement makes a difference.
