On Nov. 17th, a Take Back the Night event to support victims of sexual assault and encourage an end to “silence and victim-blaming” was held at UPEI. The event was created by 4th year student Thane Bernard with the support from the Revolutionary Student Movement (RSM) and Nova Arsenault, as well as the Rainbow Alliance and Campus Life Lounge.
After a protest march  and candlelight vigil outside of the Murphy Centre, the approximately 20 participants went inside the building to listen to several speeches, including one by UPEI Prof. Colleen MacQuarrie, who recounted her own sexual assault when she was a student, and the concern for the offender offered by university administrators and councillors through an insistence on restorative justice measures.
The Cadre was able to attend part of the event and capture video of the closing, as well as ask both Bernard and Arsenault some questions about the event. This video can be viewed below.
