A Cross-Country and Track and Field Club at UPEI is officially commencing, as Chris Huggan, the Director of Athletics and Recreation, announced the four individuals that will helm the initiative. Each having a wide array of experience already, the coaching staff will consist of Mike Peterson, Stanley Chaisson, Jen Nicholson, and Rob MacKenzie. In their inaugural year, they hope to attract high school students who want to compete at a varsity level, and feel confident in showing their worth as a part of the AUS. Link

Weekly Fitness Classes began. Pilates on the Bosu with Tracy starts at 12:05pm, and Dance Fitness with Lyndsey starts at 5:00pm. These programs are both free for full-time students or sports centre members. Link

Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) has received fourteen requests to host national championship events for the 2016, 2017 and 2018 academic years. UPEI only placed one bid, looking to host the Women’s Hockey championship games in 2017. The CIS will review each request, make a decision and inform the schools sometime in mid-October. Link

Panther Tickets Packages are now available for non students to attend regular season home games. The Panther Package allows access to Men’s/Women’s Soccer, Women’s Rugby, Women’s Hockey and Men’s/Women’s Basketball. Link

The PEI Ultimate Frisbee League held its second session, having started up on September 9th. Players gather at the UPEI Soccer Turf every week from 7:30-9:30pm. According to member Josh Coles, who reached out to the Cadre, the league has grown significantly over the years, and UPEI contributes a fair amount of players. Specifically, many vet students who transfer to UPEI tend to get involved, due to its rising popularity off island. The Cadre had a chance to speak with Coles and vet student Elizabeth Turner, which can be viewed below.

Danielle Younker and Brett Strba were named Athletes of the Week, for Women’s and Men’s Soccer respectively. Both first year students, they were noted for their skill and determination in each of their games against the MUN Seahawks. Link
Sept. 18

The Men’s/Women’s Soccer teams played their first games on home turf, and UPEI Students made sure that the opposing teams knew this by showing their support in full green attire. Both teams competed against the St. FX X-Men, with the Women playing a 5-1 Loss and the Men playing a 4-0 Win. Link
