Editorial: How to survive November

By Ben Macintosh

The Halloween season is almost over and soon people will start looking towards the holidays in December.

I get it, winter break is one of the best times of the year, but we can’t forget about the current semester and all that is left to do.

November is one of the busiest times of the year because classes rush to cover all chapters before the end of the semester. This can result in tests, essays, midterms and term papers creeping up on students throughout the month.

Professors aren’t trying to fail all of us, but the high workload can make November stressful for anyone.

All the papers and test of November make the end of the semester seem a million years away but do not fret. Once all the papers, tests and exams are over we shall finally have our winter break.

Surviving this month can be a struggle, for some it always seems like a rush to the finish line.
Despite this frantic finish, there are ways to make this turbulent time more manageable.

The easiest step is to ensure you have all your due dates and test dates on a calendar or in your phone. Keeping track of these dates will allow you to plan what to work on and keep work from seeking up on you.

Attending class is important, but attending review classes for tests, midterms or exams are even more important. These classes might give you the opportunity to ask questions on the topics that were more difficult. Review classes usually provide a good look into how the professor will set up their exams and tests which helps indicate what to study. Serious, do not miss a chance to ask questions.

Essays and term papers are not usually easy and they require more time than most other projects. Depending on the circumstances professors will agree to extensions on essays, as long as you ask them well in advance. There is no harm in asking for the extension and if you manage to get it, you’ll have more time to perfect your work.

The last and maybe most important tip is to stay focused but also have fun. Studying is essential but you have to take breaks. It’s not possible to study 24/7, so in between class and school work try to find some time to relax and enjoy yourself.

As we near the end of 2019 and this semester we as students have to remember to stay focused on the now and not dream too much about our upcoming winter break.
