Donald Trump wants a database of Muslims in the United States. He does
not “rule out” them being required to carry identification cards.
(Yellow stars ring a bell anyone?)
He and other Republicans want to create a “Humane” deportation force.
I don’t think there are words in any language that are strong enough
to convey my disgust with this.
Let me explain something quite simple to you.
In no fucking way, shape, or bloody form is there a humane way to
deport 11.3 million people.
a 115 billion dollar cost to do so, and not to mention untold human
misery, caused by something we lose more by doing than we would ever
gain.
Back home in Manhattan-
The Serbian worker who I greet every morning may not be a citizen.
The Pakistani Cab driver who teaches me new words in Urdu, ,and speaks
fondly of his home village in the snow capped mountains in Pakistan
may not be a citizen.
My barber who cuts my hair better than most I know, and sings the
Latin American songs better than the professional on the radio may not
be a citizen.
And you know what?
I don’t fucking care.
Because all three of those men, and millions of others, who are
undocumented immigrants, have helped New York City Prosper, have
helped Chicago prosper, and have helped Los Angeles Prosper, and as a
result, have helped America prosper.
And quite frankly, if I were in a war torn country, with almost
nothing, or overrun by crime, I would do what most anyone else would
do, and risk looking for a better life.
People do not come here to “mooch” off the system.
Women do not carry their children 1200 miles, crossing railroads and
borders, to “mooch.”
They come because they have no where better to go.
So perhaps the country that prides itself on its diversity,
the country that fought wars, in which a white Hungarian Jew, might be
saved by a Black Muslim Medic whose family were refugees from Somalia,
and then taken off the battlefield by a German American Helicopter
pilot, while being given cover fire by a Mexican American crew chief
manning a minigun, while an Anglo American General oversees the
battlefield from the command center, would be MORE FUCKING TOLERANT OF
THOSE FLEEING FROM GOD KNOWS THE HELL WHAT.
So perhaps we should either just stop pretending we pride ourselves on
diversity but are scared of the most heavily vetted refugees ON EARTH,
or perhaps we should just buck up and admit we want the statue of
liberty to not have
“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
but instead have
“WHITES ONLY!”
and deal with it from there.
