This past Saturday, pop-up markets took place in 33 cities all across Canada as part of Etsy: Made in Canada, which is a national grassroots initiative that celebrates local artists, collectors, and their handmade and curated treasures. Under the leadership of Suzanne Scott (The Potter’s Daughter and Village Pottery), team leader and organizer, 46 vendors in total gathered together at the Murphy Centre in Charlottetown, PEI on September 26 with booths displaying all kinds of craftsmanship, from delectable French macarons to stunning typography prints. With over 1,200 attendees, complete with live music, The Galley food truck, and good vibrations all around from vendors and visitors, the pop-up market made for quite the enjoyable time.
Etsy provides artists from all over the world with a platform to buy, sell, and connect with other artists and the presence of Etsy teams in local communities provides support and learning opportunities between team members in their communities. It is not the easiest task starting up a business, therefore the support of a local community is incredibly beneficial to these entrepreneurs who want to bring their creative ideas to life. These pop-up markets are a great chance to get to know the faces behind some of the most incredible works of art, to hear their stories, and appreciate the talent and dedication of these local artists to pursue their passions to cultivate beauty and creativity with the work that they do.
