The Volleyball Pairs Tournament hosted by the UPEIVC

The UPEI Volleyball Club hosted a volleyball tournament on February 8, at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre, bringing together 36 students for a Sunday night full of energy and friendly competition. The unique format of this tournament made it refreshingly different from their usual drop-ins every week.

Unlike traditional tournaments, where you play with a team of six to eight players against others in order to win, participants were asked to sign up in pairs. In each match, six pairs would be put together to form two teams. Players were able to experiment in different play styles, rewarding those that were able to adapt with one another. Then in the next match, another six pairs would randomly be teamed up. The scores would be tallied, and the number one spot would be given to the pair with the most victories.

The organizers said that the format was designed to promote collaboration and increase interaction among players. Every match was an opportunity to meet new people, as well as challenge your volleyball skills in an exciting way. Several players had to switch from their usual styles of spiking or setting to receiving and vice versa.
