Saturday Night’s Alright

On Saturday, April 9th, the student union gathered at Rodd Charlottetown for their year-end banquet.

Everyone came dressed to the nines for a proper night of celebration. For many, this night marked the turning of a page. Soon, degrees will be framed, grad caps will fly, and sights will settle on new horizons.

But not before one last hurrah.

The buffet, a supposed relic of the past, made its grand return as The Cadre’s Clint Maramag was spotted going for a third helping. No mercy was shown to the dessert table, either.

While the room filled with laughter, chit-chat, and a few Upstreet Rewinds, the evening did not go without gratitude for a year’s worth of hard work.

Awards were presented to those who demonstrated exceptional work ethic, talent, resilience, and leadership.

Additional nods were given to VPAX Maggie LeClair, VP Finance Leena Daboo, and VPSL Nathan Lacroix.

It was an unusual year in more ways than one, but the SU managed to roll with the punches and get the job done. President Adam Mackenzie wrestling with a wonky microphone proved that Saturday night was no exception.

When later asked to summarize the year, Mackenzie thought carefully before deciding on “eventful.”

Mackenzie is gearing up for a big summer; he’ll write the 2022-2025 strategic direction plan, outlining concerns around mental health support and the impact of the housing crisis on students.

As the clock struck 9:30, ties were loosened, hair was let down, and the banquet ended with final thanks and bittersweet goodbyes. But outside, the night was still young. It was Saturday night, alright.
