The Fox and Crow managed to increase profits in October 2019 compared to the same month last year, but the Halloween pub event was not as successful.
UPEI Student council on Sunday, Nov. 17, heard that the campus pub increased the net income by $2990.87, going from $1952.37 in October 2018 to $4943.24 in October 2019.
UPEISU VP of finance, Keesha Ryan presented the monthly report to council. While costs of goods increased by $4735.54, revenue increased by $2554.62 and total operating costs decreased by $5171.79.
“Our costs of goods was actually a bit higher this year compared to last year, however we still made a profit,†Ryan said.
The Halloween Pub event saw a decreased revenue compared to last year, said Ryan who was presenting the report on behalf of VP of Student Life Tessa Rogers.
“Ticket sales decreased by about $1000 compared to last year. I know this is a bit confusing in terms of ticket sales because we were technically sold out,†she said.
While the event was sold out, ticket sales decreased because of discounts offered to those who bought tickets before the event and because some ticket holders were not allowed in and given refunds because the building reached capacity.*
Council voted unanimously to approve changes to the SU elections by-law. Some general changes to reduce confusion were included, a major adjustment in the by-law eliminated the winter executive elections, which will now be held in the spring as part of the SU general elections.
Councillors also unanimously approved changes to the SU operational policy, SU credit card policy, and the amended 2019-2020 budget.
Some of the budget changes included an increase of the number of students from the one predicted last year.
Two new societies were ratified on the weekend both the Sociology and Anthropology Society and the Circle K International Club.
SU President Emma Drake presented the clubs on behalf of Rogers. She said the Sociology and Anthropology Society will be a great resource for students interested in those areas of study.
Circle K International is an international collegiate service organization that is a service leadership program of Kiwanis International.
The next council meeting will be on Dec. 1 at 6 P.M. in MacDougall Hall.
*Refunds for Halloween Pub were not accounted for in the numbers reported in council on Sunday. Anyone who was not able to get through the door at Halloween Pub but had a ticket purchases beforehand should contact the Student Union to arrange a refund.
