Council Recap: Fox and Crow revenues up, costs down

By Ben Macintosh

UPEISU’s flagship business, The Fox and Crow, lost less money this September than it did a year ago.

VPFA Keesha Ryan presented the September 2018 and 2019 expenses of the Fox and Crow during the UPEISU council meeting on Oct. 20.

In September of 2018 the Fox and Crow lost $13,466.80, while in the same month this year that number was reduced to $5441.40. One of the biggest differences was the revenue of food which increased by $4267.69, going from $27,226.90 in 2018 to $31,494.59 this year.

Another change was the amount of money spent on food decreasing by $5363.20. This, however, was partially offset by an increase in liquor costs of $3875.65.

Ryan said some of the costs like staff training and printing decreased due to this being the Fox and Crow’s second year in operation.

President Emma Drake And UPEISU Director of Communications Caroline Simoes Correa Bizulli also presented the UPEISU Director of Communications strategic plan at yesterday’s meeting.

The plan outlines the goal for improving communications both on social media and around campus.

The motion to approve this plan was put forward by Drake, seconded by Student Senator Kali Ross and passed unanimously by council.

Two new councillors were sworn in Sunday after winning their respective seats in the last SU election.

Jennifer Stewart was sworn in as science rep. With her swearing in all three science rep. positions on council are now filled.

Hassan Itani joined council as the mathematics and computational science rep.

Another society was ratified Sunday as the council voted unanimously to ratify the Young Adults

and Singles Ministry of Charlottetown.

VPSL Tessa Rogers spoke to the council about the new society.

“I would recommend that we approve this, I received their consultation, their application and everything and all of their bylaws and I think it’s a great opportunity for students,” she said.

The next council meeting will be on Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. in room 328 of McDougall Hall.
