Meet Your Managing Editor- Lorelei Kenny

I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve. I’m Lorelei Kenny, your new Arts and Entertainment managing editor. I have lots of ideas for the upcoming year and I’m open to suggestions. I’d really love to feature student writing in the Cadre this year. (poems, short stories or even essays) So if you have anything to submit, please do!

Growing up in downtown Charlottetown, in a tiny but lovable 80 year old home with my three brothers and my two beautiful parents, my childhood could not have passed more pleasantly. I was blessed with very supportive and easygoing parents, trustworthy friends who were always willing to do anything, and a gentle island where all roads led to the ocean. (I’m glad to say I still have all those things.)

I’m thrilled to be a UPEI student pursuing a major in English as I’ve always loved literature – writing, reading and analyzing literature, and then crafting and fine-tuning a piece of writing. Some authors whom I admire are E.E. Cummings, J.R.R. Tolkien,(perhaps you caught the nod in the first paragraph) Fulton Sheen and of course like any other lover of English literature the great William Shakespeare.

When I’m not immersed in my studies you will find me “jamming” with my friends, trying new recipes, marathoning Star Trek, rummaging through the racks in thrift stores, or exploring the island. Speaking of PEI, I am very much engaged in the local music scene, which is quite large for such a small province. My friends and I support local musicians whenever we have the time and money. If you aren’t already listening to the amazing bands on the island, you should really check them out! My love for music definitely extends beyond the island. From Simon and Garfunkel to Coldplay; from Frank Sinatra to Frank Ocean; from Pavement to Two Hours Traffic; from the Fleet Foxes to Paper Lions, I truly love it all – Just as Father John Misty’s lyrics state,“Literally music is the air ‘I’ breathe”.

Like everyone else, I am made up of many parts, and at my core I am a Catholic. Yes, I have many passions and goals, but the ones that matter most are striving to grow in virtue and reaching paradise. In the end, it’s not my family, my profs,or my friends who keep me balanced but it’s my faith, and without it I’d be lost.

With this introduction behind us, I hope you will feel comfortable waving me down on campus or sending me a letter anytime to introduce yourself. If you ever have any suggestions on topics you’d like to see explored or showcased, don’t hesitate to make it known. Better yet, if you have anything you’d like to submit for publication please contact myself or anyone at The Cadre. Remember, this is your school newspaper and if you have something to say or to share, you should! Here at The Cadre we believe your voices should be heard, so don’t be shy, come up and visit us. With that, there is nothing more to say than welcome to all the newbies on campus, and welcome back to everyone else! It’s bound to be another exciting year full of opportunities for both personal and professional growth, and I wish you all good luck in your future endeavors.

Laterdays,

Lorelei
