Emma Drake, Vice President Academic and External, spoke briefly on her recent trip to Egypt with UPEISU President Will McGuigan and President Alaa Abd-El-Aziz. They were visiting the UPEI campus that opened recently in Cairo, now hosting 150 students.
UPEI will offer a Bachelor of Science in sustainable design engineering, a Bachelor of Business Administration, three B.Sc. degrees in mathematical and computational sciences (data analytics, financial mathematics, and actuarial sciences,), and a Bachelor of Science in environmental studies and climate change.
The UPEISU’s Get Out the Vote Campaign is now in full swing, starting off with the mayoral debate hosted in McMillan Hall last Wednesday. Drake is satisfied with the turnout, and added that she was pleased to see one candidate sporting a UPEISU mug while on stage.
William McGuigan, President, took part in a meeting with the university administration regarding emergency evacuation procedure. There will be training available to students in the coming weeks. Green assembly points are stationed around campus.
Additionally, he has been working on updating the flags in the Student Centre, as there are currently 35 flags missing from the 81 nationalities represented by the UPEI student body.
Sarah MacEachern, Vice President Student Life said that the Imaginus poster sale was successful, and the board game night at The Fox and Crow had approximately 25 people in attendance.
There are no numbers available yet from Halloween Pub, but 450 tickets were sold in advance. The hydration station and complementary pizza were a hit.
John Ployer, Vice President Finance, said the online survey regarding budget amendments received approximately 100 responses. He didn’t present the results to council,Â
Policy Committee Updates
The Fox and Crow Policy: the pub name has officially been changed from The Wave to The Fox and Crow. Ding dong, the Wave is dead.
Hiring Board Policy: The Fox and Crow servers, as well as any positions that don’t directly relate to union operations, no longer need to be approved by council. The Cadre Editor-in-Chief needs to be passed by council, but not the managing editors.
Other Business
The Fox and Crow brought in $26k more in revenue than last year, despite initial expenses increasing by $21k. September saw a loss of $13k compared to last year’s $18k. 
Emma Drake spoke on the possibility of centralizing Open Education Resources (OERs) into a database. This would provide access to information regarding what classes students are currently taking or could be taking in the future that have access to OERs, with the end goal of lowering the additional fees associated with purchasing textbooks.
William McGuigan introduced the prospective Panther Patrol, a shuttle service operated by the SU that would provide students with a sober drive home from wet/drys, and a ride to walk-in clinics, pharmacies, and supermarkets. There would be both a male and female driver in the car at all times, and a camera installed. The van would cover Charlottetown, North River, some parts of Stratford, and the airport.
