“In one word, great.” These were the words of Vice President Finance and Administration John Ployer at Sunday night’s council meeting while presenting the financial success of Back 2 School Pub.
The event, held on September 6, generated a net profit of $5,116.34, a 95% increase from the $2,627.53 that was generated in 2017.
While the event made similar incomes in 2017 and 2018, it was the decrease in expenses this year that brought in more money for the SU.
“We saved money with security and production and the headliner,” Ployer said. “The profit that we made will go towards future initiatives of the SU.”
Ticket sales were $9,376.52 in 2018, compared to $9,500 in 2017. The deficit was made up in bar sales at The Fox and Crow, which were $4,426.42 in 2018 compared to $4,165.82 in 2017.
Vice President Student Life Sarah MacEachern attributed the increase in bar sales to “the new layout of the bar and it being much more efficient to bartend at.”
It’s worth noting that the fire alarm was set off at around 1:15 AM because of a fog machine, which stopped bar sales 45 minutes early.
“We checked the numbers from last year, and during that period of time that we missed, they made $333 at the bar,” Ployer added.
This year, there was also a free BBQ and Hydration Station sponsored by the PEI Liquor Control Commission.
MacEachern confirmed that because of how well the event went, the PEILCC will sponsor the rest of the Wet/Dry events for the year with hydration and food stations.
